Past Continuous (Past Progressive)

Le Past Continuous décrit les actions ou les situations qui étaient en cours à un moment particulier du passé. Il met l'accent sur la nature continue de l'action plutôt que sur son accomplissement.

Nous formons le Past Continuous avec was/were + la forme -ing du verbe. Utilisez 'was' avec I, he, she, it et 'were' avec you, we, they.

Formation

Forme Affirmative

Formez le Past Continuous avec was/were + verbe-ing.

Forme Négative

Ajoutez 'not' après was/were pour former les négations. Les contractions sont couramment utilisées.

Questions Oui/Non

Placez was/were avant le sujet pour former les questions.

Exemples :

  • Was I reading at 8 o'clock?
  • Were you walking in the park?
  • Was he cooking dinner?
  • Was she talking on the phone?
  • Was it raining this morning?
  • Were we playing football yesterday?
  • Were they studying together?

Questions avec Wh-

Commencez par un mot interrogatif, puis utilisez was/were + sujet + verbe-ing.

Exemples :

  • What was I reading?
  • Where were you walking?
  • What was he cooking?
  • Who was she talking to?
  • When was it raining?
  • What were we playing?
  • What were they studying?

Utilisation

Remarque : Les verbes statiques (comme know, like, believe, want) ne sont généralement pas utilisés dans les formes continues. Ils décrivent des états plutôt que des actions.
