Future Simple vs Present Continuous (per il futuro)

La scelta tra Future Simple e Present Continuous per eventi futuri dipende dal fatto che tu stia facendo previsioni, promesse e decisioni spontanee o descrivendo piani concordati e appuntamenti definiti. Questa distinzione aiuta a trasmettere il giusto livello di certezza e pianificazione.

Future Simple esprime possibilità, decisioni e previsioni, mentre Present Continuous mostra accordi concreti già presi. Comprendere questa differenza ti aiuterà a comunicare le tue intenzioni future con il livello appropriato di impegno e certezza.

Future Simple (will + base verb)

Uso per:

  • Previsioni e aspettative
  • Decisioni spontanee
  • Promesse e impegni
  • Offerte e richieste
  • Fatti futuri generali

Esempi:

  • I think it will rain tomorrow. (prediction)
  • I'll help you with that. (spontaneous offer)
  • She will call you later. (promise)
  • The sun will rise at 6 a.m. (fact)

Present Continuous (am/is/are + -ing)

Uso per:

  • Piani e appuntamenti concordati
  • Accordi futuri definiti
  • Eventi sociali già organizzati
  • Programma personale fisso
  • Futuro prossimo con preparazione

Esempi:

  • I'm meeting Sarah at 3 p.m. (arrangement)

  • The dentist is seeing me tomorrow. (appointment)

Livello di Certezza e Pianificazione

Spontaneo vs Pianificato:

Future Simple: "I'll visit my parents this weekend."

→ Appena deciso, nessun accordo specifico preso

Present Continuous: "I'm visiting my parents this weekend."

→ Già concordato, mi stanno aspettando

Previsione vs Accordo:

Future Simple: "The meeting will be next Tuesday."

→ Aspettandosi/prevedendo quando accadrà

Present Continuous: "The meeting is next Tuesday."

→ Già programmato, in agenda

Offerta vs Piano Esistente:

Future Simple: "I'll cook dinner tonight."

→ Offerta spontanea o decisione appena presa

Present Continuous: "I'm cooking dinner tonight."

→ Già pianificato, ingredienti comprati

Present Continuous richiede preparazione/accordo:

• "We're getting married next month. (venue booked, invitations sent)"

• "I'm starting a new job on Monday. (contract signed, start date confirmed)"

• "They're moving house next week. (removal van booked, boxes packed)"

• "She's having surgery tomorrow. (hospital appointment scheduled)"

Future Simple per decisioni/reazioni immediate:

• "It's cold in here. I'll close the window. (just noticed, deciding now)"

• "The phone's ringing. I'll answer it. (reacting to the moment)"

• "You look tired. I'll make you some tea. (responding to what I see)"

• "I'll help you with those bags. (spontaneous offer)"

✅ "I'll help you."

Decisioni immediate usano Future Simple

❌ "It's raining tomorrow. (weather prediction)"

✅ "It will rain tomorrow. OR It's going to rain tomorrow."

Previsioni meteorologiche non usano Present Continuous
