Past Continuous (Past Progressive)

Il Past Continuous descrive azioni o situazioni che erano in corso in un momento particolare del passato. Enfatizza la natura continua dell'azione piuttosto che il suo completamento.

Formiamo il Past Continuous con was/were + la forma -ing del verbo. Usa 'was' con I, he, she, it e 'were' con you, we, they.

Forma Negativa

Aggiungi 'not' dopo was/were per formare i negativi. Le forme contratte sono comunemente usate.

Domande Sì/No

Sposta was/were prima del soggetto per formare domande.

Esempi:

  • Was I reading at 8 o'clock?
  • Were you walking in the park?
  • Was he cooking dinner?
  • Was she talking on the phone?
  • Was it raining this morning?
  • Were we playing football yesterday?
  • Were they studying together?

Domande con Wh-

Inizia con una parola interrogativa, poi usa was/were + soggetto + verbo-ing.

Esempi:

  • What was I reading?
  • Where were you walking?
  • What was he cooking?
  • Who was she talking to?
  • When was it raining?
  • What were we playing?
  • What were they studying?

Uso

Nota: I verbi stativi (come know, like, believe, want) non sono solitamente usati in forme continue. Descrivono stati piuttosto che azioni.
