Zero Conditional

Zero conditionalは英語で最も直接的な条件文の形で、事実、科学的真実、常に真である自動的な結果を表現するために使用されます。可能性や仮定の状況を扱う他の条件文とは異なり、zero conditionalは例外なく毎回起こる実際の因果関係を説明します。

両方の節でif + present simpleで形成されるこの条件文は、不確実性が含まれていないため「ゼロ」と呼ばれています。条件が満たされると結果が起こることが保証されます。これは確実性の条件文であり、自然法則、科学的プロセス、一般的真実、自動的な結果を説明するのに最適です。

Zero conditionalを特別なものにしているのは、その信頼性と普遍性です。水が異なる温度でどのように振る舞うかを説明する場合でも、自動プロセスを説明する場合でも、指示を与える場合でも、人生についての一般的な事実を述べる場合でも、この条件文の形は、すべての人、すべての場所で常に真である関係を表現します。

常に真である事実を説明しているため、両方の節でpresent simpleを使用します

例:

If you heat water, it boils.
If it rains, the ground gets wet.
If you press this button, the machine starts.
If I eat too much, I feel sick.

'when'を使った代替:

When you heat water, it boils.
When it rains, the ground gets wet.
When you press this button, the machine starts.
When I eat too much, I feel sick.

避けるべきよくある間違い

✗ "If you will heat water, it will boil."

✓ "If you heat water, it boils."

Zero conditionalでは'will'を使用しないでください。両方の節でpresent simpleを使用します

✗ "If it would rain, the ground gets wet."

✓ "If it rains, the ground gets wet."

Zero conditionalでは'would'を避けてください。全体でpresent simpleを使用します

✗ "If you press this button, the machine will starts."

✓ "If you press this button, the machine starts."

時制を混ぜないでください。両方の節をpresent simpleに保ってください

✗ "If you might be late, call me."

✓ "If you are late, call me."

Zero conditionalでは法助動詞ではなく、present simpleを使用してください
