間接話法入門 - 基礎
間接話法(reported speech)は、他の誰かが言った、考えた、または信じたことを、その正確な言葉を使わずに伝えるために使われる文法構造です。直接引用するのではなく、間接話法は元の発言を従属節に変換し、代名詞、時間の表現、そして多くの場合動詞の時制を変更して、報告の新しい視点とタイミングを反映させます。
間接話法が不可欠である理由は、日常のコミュニケーションや正式な文章における役割です。私たちは常に情報を伝え、会話を共有し、他の人が私たちに言ったことを伝える必要があります。間接話法により、私たち自身の話し言葉や書き言葉のコンテキストとの文法的一貫性を保ちながら、自然かつ正確にこれを行うことができ、物語、ジャーナリズム、学術的な文章、そして日常会話にとって基本的なものとなっています。

直接話法と間接話法
基本的な比較
直接話法:
話者の正確な言葉を引用符で囲んで使用
""I am tired," she said."
""We will come tomorrow," they told us."
""Do you like coffee?" he asked."
間接話法(Reported Speech):
引用符なしで言われたことを報告
She said (that) she was tired.
They told us (that) they would come the next day.
He asked if/whether I liked coffee.
間接話法の主な変更点:
- 引用符を削除する
- 新しい視点に合わせて代名詞を変更する
- 多くの場合、動詞の時制を変更する(時制の一致)
- 時間と場所の表現を調整する
- 伝達動詞を使用する(say, tell, ask)
必須の伝達動詞: Say, Tell, Ask
SAY
聞き手に言及せずに発言を報告
Structure: say + (that) + 節
Example: She said (that) she was happy.
With 'to': She said to me that she was happy.
TELL
発言を報告し、常に聞き手を含める
Structure: tell + 人 + (that) + 節
Example: She told me (that) she was happy.
Note: 話しかけられた人を含める必要がある
ASK
質問を報告
Structure: ask + (人) + if/whether/疑問詞
Example: He asked if I was ready.
Note: 間接疑問文には疑問符を使用しない

避けるべきよくある間違い
❌ She said me she was tired.
✅ She told me she was tired. / She said she was tired.
'Say'は直接目的語を取らない。誰に話しかけたかを言及する場合は'tell'を使用する
❌ He told that he was happy.
✅ He said that he was happy. / He told me that he was happy.
'Tell'には話しかけられた人を含める必要がある
❌ She asked that I was ready?
✅ She asked if/whether I was ready.
Yes/No質問には'that'ではなく'if'または'whether'を使用する
❌ "I am tired," she said that she was tired.
✅ "I am tired," she said. / She said that she was tired.
同じ文で直接話法と間接話法を混在させない
段階的な変換ガイド
"I am reading a good book," she said.
- 引用符を削除: I am reading a good book, she said.
- 伝達動詞の構造を選択: She said...
- 代名詞を変更: I → she
- 時制の一致を適用: am reading → was reading
- 必要に応じて表現を調整: a good book(変更不要)
- 最終結果: She said she was reading a good book.
